Season 3
We Are Heroes
One big adventure leaves a huge impression going from the end of the second season and the start of the third. This premiere cartoon is dedicated to showing where our main heroes, K.O., Rad, and Enid, have currently come in life.
The biggest change is how they’re now being called for the often mentioned top secret missions. Heck, the first scene is practically dedicated to what daily life is like for them, covering such a top secret mission. Attention is given to each of their special powers when taking out a dragon seemingly attacking the hut of a Viking and his fox wife. As a bonus, Dendy even gets in on the action as the newly appointed mission coordinator while also rocking a nice beret I might add. Showcasing the most growth in this setup is K.O. When you look back on his pretentious portrayal towards heroism back in the beginning, change from him is highly noticeable as his famed power fist really finishes the job.
That said, much of the cartoon follows K.O. still feel indifferent about the changes. In spite of him and his friends getting more worship than ever and other heroes doing the usual bodega work while they’re on top secret missions, to him things remain the same. For that, he doesn’t give himself the credit for his powers and accomplishments that others do, and feels the same as he did when he first started out at Lakewood Plaza Turbo. Ultimately, while it’s easy to be invested in the lifestyle changes, there’s also an interesting way of showing that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Change still makes itself known as K.O. and the others realize that a true hero’s work is never done when they’re called back to the same place to deal with the same dragon. For K.O.’s sake, it’s rewarding that coming back here is what gets him to realize how far he’s come as a hero. As Rad and Enid fight the dragon at first, it then chases K.O. and K.O. alone. He naturally starts wondering why the dragon is only chasing him, and finds the connection in the glorbs that he was given earlier. Coming to the conclusion that the dragon was just trying to get them as part of its nature, there’s an imaginative reveal that they help that dragon shine as a rainbow dragon.
When all is said and done, K.O.
is given credit for what is legitimately the most meaningful growth of
all. For thinking of the situation
instead of rushing in and fighting, he has proven to be the most mature hero. The last scene of him keeping his cool as Rad
and Enid comically mess around with each other on the way back emphasizes this
too. In the end, the story may be very
basic and some twists might be obvious when you think about it, but this cartoon is still a strong start to big changes.
