Dendy’s Power
With a cast full of heroes with their own special powers, it’s inspiring to get a cartoon showing how they don’t always have to be superpowers. Powers can come from special talents that can really make a difference. This cartoon demonstrates this inspiring message while also giving noteworthy development to the ever-lovable Dendy.
Now, it’s very apparent that all the main heroes have made progress at this point in the series, especially K.O. However, this progress is not reflected in his Pow Card and he can easily tell something’s wrong as opposed to just going along with it. In addition to K.O. becoming self-aware of his own progress, it’s the perfect conflict for Dendy to come in and manage. She informs K.O. that this is the work of a glitch his Pow Card seems to have developed, and it’s all uncovered through her special talent of coding.
This is followed up by a creative look at the process as she hooks up her hackpack to just about anything and anyone. Through coding, Dendy is able to completely manipulate her surroundings with giving K.O. a nose job and creating her own version of fine art. Out of her demonstrations, she uncovers an example of infinite loops which cause something to repeat itself endlessly and not get anywhere. However, infinite loops can be a good thing as she uses one in her coding to accessorize K.O.’s Pow Card with an infinite loop of fireworks. It doesn’t fix the glitch, but K.O. is very impressed with what’s done with it anyway. Soon Dendy’s talents become recognizable and the entire plaza wants her to code their Pow Cards resulting in a vast collection of creative customizations.
However, Dendy’s love for coding makes her oblivious to what can be done when it gets into the wrong hands. Because of her claim that coding is free, Dendy is able to code the Pow Card of one of the villains, Shannon, who enters jealous of everyone else getting Pow Card upgrades. When hers is coded, she’s able to hack into everyone else’s Pow Cards and later goes up to attack the server of them all. In other words, she becomes all powerful and can’t be stopped so easily.
Knowing the server is up in the cloud, literally, Dendy has the means to get herself and K.O. up there by hopping all the way up like the kappa she is. Hopping great heights is her true superpower, though obviously coding is where her expertise is. It isn’t even a power as it’s something she trained herself in at a young age which can be said for all powers people in real life have. In other words, Dendy is at her most relatable with this reveal on her background.
Once they get to the server, there’s an exciting sequence where Shannon is much more powerful and threatening than usual, and Dendy and K.O.’s fighting can’t stop her. Luckily, Dendy’s previous encounter of infinite loops is put to good use as the only thing Shannon can’t handle. Ultimately, despite all obstacles, Dendy’s contributions to everyone’s Pow Cards is made to work, and she even gets K.O.’s card fixed once and for all. While her creative customizations are never addressed at any other point, it is beneficial that her and K.O.’s levels go up significantly. It’s a solid way of showing that progress really is happening, making this show all the more engaging.
